The program in Pre-K seeks to provide age-appropriate experiences that fully develop a student's God-given potential in an atmosphere that promotes spiritual growth and a positive self-concept. The schedule features daily routines with structured large group lessons. Small-group learning and free-choice activities provide for development of students' social interactions and promote cooperation. Students learn standard-based concepts and do skills-based activities using fun and creative themes. While planned activities cover all of the core curriculum areas, the students' faith life, pre-reading/reading skills and a solid math foundation are the most prominent.

Multiple Open House opportunities, Parent/Teacher  conferences and weekly newsletters develop a cooperative link between home and classroom.

Curriculum

  • Religion - The Voyages curriculum emphasizes Jesus' love for each student. This focus incorporates God's love for us as shown in His plan for our salvation. The Bible stories are enhanced through chapel, worship, songs, puppets, books, finger plays, and weekly memory work.
  • Let's Begin With THE LETTER PEOPLE provides a wide variety of activities specifically designed to engage and develop various parts of the brain. Use of expressive and receptive language, appreciation and production of music and art, visual and spatial perception, logical and mathematical calculations, social interaction, use of large and small motor muscles- all these come into play throughout the program.
  • Social Development - The Letter People have different likes and dislikes. Sometimes they are not sure how to behave. This provides the children a chance to help the Letter People resolve conflicts and to think of better ways of handling things the next time around. This helps the children see the world from someone else's point of view.
  • Phonics - The sequence in which the Letter People are introduced follows the sequence in which speech sounds are acquired. Children are encouraged to talk and listen, to tell about their experiences and ideas, to play with words, to experiment with rhymes and alliteration, to hear and repeat stories, songs and poems, including nursery rhymes. Each Letter Person wears a capital letter on the front and a lowercase on the back, this helps reinforce letter identification. Each Letter Person has a distinguishing characteristic that is readily associated with the sound represented by that letter. Each one has a special song that helps to reinforce that association.
  • Computer - Students reinforce basic math and reading skills using a variety of educational software. Students learn basic parts of the computer, mouse control and beginning keyboarding skills.
  • Art, Music, P.E. & Choir - These areas of learning promote the child's awareness of cultural and aesthetic value in the fine arts as well as development of fine and gross motor skills.
  • Family Involvment - We encourage strong family involvement. Family Activity pages are sent home at the completion of each Letter Person. These pages invite the family to engage in a variety of simple, brief educational activities with your child, all designed to extend the learning that is taking place.
